I’m renovating my 80 m² apartment in central Sundbyberg (Stockholm) and would really appreciate your personal color advice. My goals are: Warm, inviting Scandinavian home (not cold/clinical) Calm, cohesive flow between rooms “Boutique” feeling rather than standard new-build Good resale appeal in 2 years, but still relevant in 5+ years Fixed elements: Floor: Pergo Saltholm Natural Herringbone Oak (warm, light oak) Kitchen fronts: NCS S 2005-Y20R, matte Accents in kitchen: light walnut (open niches + island cladding) Countertop & full backsplash: quartz similar to Eternal Calacatta Gold (warm white with soft gold/grey veining) Orientation: kitchen/dining south, bedrooms east, living/office more north/east light. I have attached my apartment layout, the top side is south. I’m hesitating between two wall palettes and would love your views on undertones, coherence and light behavior in Scandinavian daylight and 2700 K light. Palette 1 – 1024-based (more unified) Main walls – all rooms: Jotun LADY 1024 Tidlös (NCS S 1002-Y) Living room TV wall: NCS S 2005-Y20R (same family as kitchen fronts) Master bedroom bed wall: NCS S 1505-Y20R Small bedroom & office walls: 1024 Tidlös Ceilings: NCS S 0500-N, matt Trim/doors: either S 0500-N or 1024 in satin Palette 2 – “Layered Warm Neutrals” (more room character) Public areas stay lighter; bedrooms get a bit more depth and personality, still in the same warm neutral family: Entrance, hallway, living room, kitchen – main walls: Jotun LADY 1624 Skandinavisk Lys (approx. S 0501-Y21R) Living room TV wall: NCS S 1505-Y20R Kitchen fronts: NCS S 2005-Y20R (with light walnut and Calacatta-like quartz as described) Master bedroom – all walls: Jotun LADY 12076 Modern Beige Small bedroom – all walls: Jotun LADY 10679 Washed Linen Office: Either 1624 Skandinavisk Lys or 10679 Washed Linen (I’m open to your suggestion) Ceilings: NCS S 0500-N, matt Trim/doors: either S 0500-N or color-matched to each room in satin My questions & expectations Are these combinations (for Palette 1 and Palette 2) good matches in terms of undertones with: NCS S 2005-Y20R fronts warm oak floor light walnut and a Calacatta Gold–type quartz? Would you adjust any of the wall colors (for example 1024 vs 1624 vs 12076 vs 10679, or the NCS S1505-Y20R accent) to better handle the day light and nights. Or just change to give more character/emotions. Or Which palette do you think is the stronger choice overall for my goals. I would be very grateful for any concrete suggestions (e.g., “switch 1024 to X”, “use Y instead of 12076”, “keep 1624 but adjust accents to Z”) to refine this scheme. And I am also open for completely new palette recommendations that could better align with my goals. Thank you in advance for your help!
Hi,
I'd be happy to help you, but I need a little more information here. If you have the opportunity to check what color code (ncs or Jotun) you have on your roofs, windows, doors and moldings, unless ALL of these details in the home are to be painted, that would be great. It affects which colors will look good and how you will experience the end result. The easiest way to find out is to borrow color samples of the most common whites, S0500-N, 0502-S (without the S) and S0502-Y, and see which of these comes closest to your white details. Then come back with this and color code in adjacent rooms, and I will be happy to help you further with a color plan.
Hello, thank you for your quick reply 😊. I am renovating the full apartment, so every small detail will be taken care of and yes all the doors/ceiling/windows will be painted like I mentioned earlier 🙂. Ceilings: NCS S 0500-N, matt Trim/doors: either S 0500-N or color-matched to each room Let me know if you need any further information. Would be happy to hear your sound suggestions. Thank you
Hi
Thank you. When painting an entire home, it's usually best to start with the kitchen/bathroom. After that, it's easier to find colors that match the other rooms. It can easily become overwhelming otherwise.
Please have a look at colours, LADY 1376 Froströk och LADY 0486 Silke for the walls in the kitchen and livingspace.
Test paint on large pieces of paper that you can move around and see how the colors look in different places in the room, in different lights. Let me know how you experienced the colours in your light and together with the kitchencabinets and we will proceed with the other rooms.
For matte and beautiful walls, paint with LADY Pure Color, LADY Essence, New LADY Wonderwall or LADY Balance. Wooden details such as panels, moldings, windows, doors, frames, kitchen cabinets and furniture are painted with LADY Supreme Finish. It is available in the gloss levels Pure Matt, Silk Matt, Semi-gloss and Super Gloss. Ceilings are painted with LADY Interior Finish if they are wooden ceilings and with LADY Perfection if they are smooth ceilings.
